Do you truly live your faith every day?....Even at work?.
That's right...at work.
In Matthew 5:16 (part of what's become known as The Sermon on the Mount), Jesus tells the crowd to "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
Jesus also told us that to "Love your neighbor as yourself" is one of the two great commandments.
Well "your neighbor" includes the guy in the next cubicle!
It's easy to see that people on the other side of the world suffering through the latest disaster are our neighbors and need our help and compassion. But why is it so hard for us to realize the people we work with are in need of compassion, kindness, and support too? After all, we're supposed to live our faith every moment of every day and in everything we do, aren't we?
Do you perform your work with spiritual dedication as well as professional dedication?
By the time we retire (IF we retire) we'll have worked somewhere around 83,200 hours (assuming we work about 40 years of full time employment). I've seen a lot of unhappy people in my career as a human resources professional. I believe we become unhappy at work when our values and the values of the company come into conflict,when we do work that's completely out of sync with our God-given talents, or when we perform in a way that's out of sync with who we are at our core.
I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I'm working hard to get -- and keep -- my professional and personal life centered on my faith. I'll share my thoughts about the challenges we face as we try to create professional lives that are authentic and in sync with our faith, beliefs, and values.
